Olivia Wu- Perth Doula

Ayurvedic Physician, Registered Midwife, Earth Guardian, Ayurveda Doula and Devoted Mother

MY MISSION

I am here to give you holistic comprehensive support for your motherhood journey as an Ayurvedic Doula and Ayurvedic physician for pregnancy, labour and birth and postpartum healing and recovery

Honouring your unique journey into motherhood, I am passionate about informed choice, I am prochoice and respect Self Sovereignty. This is your journey and I am here to facilitate the most positive experience for you and your family. I will guide you, provide space for you to blossom into your true empowerment and inner strength.

My true heart’s mission is that all mothers have access to true postpartum care. It saddens me that postpartum care in the ‘modern’ world is invisible and most mothers are discharged too early from hospital between 6 to 24 hours after a vaginal birth, and on average discharged 48 hours after a caesarean section. Women deserve love and support that is culturally and spiritually sensitive, family friendly,  providing a loving foundation for the profound transformation and rite of passage her experience presents. After birth the mother is depleted and needs nourishment, rejuvenation and absolute kindness. Mothers need a modern village of support so she can thrive and babies can thrive. It is too much pressure  to expect just the partner to support her, and many mothers are also single parents. We need to reclaim our power as women and support one another . We need to reclaim childbirth as a Rite of Passage.

My dream is to one day open a Yemaya Mama Baby sanctuary that holistically cares for mothers and babies postpartum and promotes sisterhood, creativity, supports breastfeeding, singing and community spirit and connection to our earth mother.

When mothers thrive, then babies are cared for better with greater breastfeeding success. I believe that gentle birth and gentle mothering is imperative for the peace and healing of our Mother Earth for our children, the custodians of this land will then grow up with healthy nervous systems, feel secure and have love, empathy and respect for our living planet.

MY JOURNEY

I can briefly share with you that my labour and childbirth in 2019 and postpartum experience was beyond my control and I suffered from severe postpartum depression, PTSD, nerve damage, suffered a hospital acquired infection and five viruses in a row. Through my direct experience of such an extreme case I personally was able to retrieve the wisdom of life teachings and gain deeper awareness into what women really need. I wished at the time that I had someone to look after me and my family. I yearned for that older sister or maternal figure to wipe my tears and nourish me to strength as I was disabled in bed for 3 months after the birth. Unfortunately I felt abandoned by my extended family as my partner and I were left alone to process it all. My heart goes out to all mothers from all backgrounds as I know first hand how open, raw and vulnerable you can feel after childbirth and if you add any other complications and life challenges, it is even more overwhelming and exhausting. I wish to care for all the mothers who are open to receive love and support and give them that emotional support, nurturing, friendship, tenderness and sisterhood we all crave as women.

MY QUALIFICATIONS

Welcome!  I am Olivia and have been a fully qualified Ayurvedic practitioner and practicing this holistic medicine since 2007 when I completed a Bachelor of Health Science (Complementary Medicine) and Advanced Diploma in Ayurvedic Medicine. My clinical Ayurvedic internship was both in India and Australia. I also worked full-time in an Ayurvedic Woman’s Health and Infertility Centre during my time in Bangalore, India in 2008 which inspired me to become a midwife; and I gained extra Ayurveda practical experience at Ayurvedic hospitals in Udupi and Manipal, India 2014. I completed my Bachelor of Science (Midwifery) with high distinction in 2015; and I am a Registered Midwife with experience in Western Australian, metropolitan and rural hospitals and also worked in the Blue Mountains, NSW. I am not practicing as a private independent midwife and therefore do not provide midwifery services outside the hospital context. I do offer holistic services in improving Women’s Health utilising the ancient wisdom of Ayurvedic Natural Medicine and I offer support as your qualified Ayurvedic physician and holistically supporting labour, birth and postpartum to pour love and nourishment for the mother’s journey using ancient eastern traditions, and its ancient grandmother wisdom.
